It was highly recommended, and hard to get. Fortunately, I got a copy for around 25 dollars, while the rest were going for 75 on . The price is down now. I was not familiar with this author, which is saying something for a person who wrote a dissertation on the topic. He was highly recommended, and I was excited to hear his thoughts. In the book, he provides a overview of the changing cultural forces that dictate a missional approach to outreach. He talks about the disestablishment of the church. His discussion of the grieving of this lost is insightful and true. He moves to a discussion of the models of change, and highlights the discussion of innovation model. Which is typically the model that all missional authors use (Roxburgh). He brings in the discussion of early adopters and late adopters. He looks at trinity theology and its influence on missional expression. His insight in some of the mistakes that churches take in this shift was excellent. Church that move in this direction typically have not done the leg work to understand the shift. It leads to technical change instead of adoptive church. Of the first steps churches take is worship renewal or small group implementation. Without a stated goal, these just cause more problems than being helpful. On the missional topic, I could write all day. This a good book for those at the beginning stages of this process. It has some valuable insights, and warnings for mistakes in transformation. I appreciate the author attempting to move the missional discussion to practical implementation. But for me, there was nothing new. This could be a statement of pride or on the other hand, I wrote a dissertation on this process, I am just as qualified as this author to write a book too. It was a worthwhile read though. I like interacting with missional texts.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Four StarsBy Robert T KayeI am well satisfied with my purchase.3 of 5 people found the following review helpful.A 152 page advertisementBy David MayThis is a 152 page advertisement for the consulting group the author has put together. That may not be the author's overt intent, but it is the way the book came off to me He makes up obscure terms or borrows them from systems theory and a variety of other disciplines. Some of them he capitalizes and uses repeatedly throughout the book. Those that he has made part of his consulting package get particularly large play.Or maybe it is all just over my head. Church should not be this complex. But, to the extent that I understand where he is trying to lead the church, I think he is right.Prostitutes, Tax Collectors, and YouSee all 6 customer reviews...
