I like the connection between this series and the Daughters of Promise series. I love the familiar characters as well as the new ones that are introduced in this series. I know a lot of people complain about the predictable endings of her books but I enjoy the happy endings. Wiseman's books are always clean and share a message of inspiration. I love that she writes a romance novel without "smut", I only gave it four stars since I don't think it's a great work of fiction. However, it's still an enjoyable read and a great way to pass a rainy afternoon.In this book we finally see a happy ending for Katie Ann Stolzfus, a single mother and window. In the Daughters of Promise series we learn that Katie Ann's husband was shunned for cheating on her with an outsider. She moved to Canaan for a fresh start along with her brother-in-law and his family. In the first of the Land of Canaan books Katie Ann is shocked to discover that she is expecting a baby shortly after being abandoned by her cheating husband. She and her husband tried for years to conceive and she thought she would never have child of her own. In The Wonder of Your Love we find Katie raising her baby on her own. With the help of friends and family she finds hope again and learns to trust God as well as her fellow man. She learns to forgive her husband and even reaches out to his mistress, who is in a surprisingly similar situation. However, just about everyone knows the truth - Ivan had left Katie Ann for an Englisch woman, Lucy Turner. Understandable, Katie Ann is completely devastated, but she's also quite mistrustful of men. If this happened to her with a husband of many years, who's to say the next person couldn't betray her just as easilyYet the Lord has other plans for Katie Ann. Eli Detweiller, the widowed cousin of David's family, arrives in Colorado for David and Emily's wedding. Eli was a single father for 17 years, following the untimely death of his beloved wife Sarah, who left him with six young children, including a newborn. All those years, tied by obligation and need, Eli dreamt of the day his children would be grown and he could finally travel and have time to enjoy himself. Now that his youngest has just married and left home, Eli is thrilled to finally realize his dream. Then, he meets Katie Ann. Although he is immediately drawn to her, he is wary. Eli feels he has already raised his family; Katie Ann, on the other hand, is just starting off with hers. The last thing he wants is to go back to the beginning, when he already has grandchildren!As the months pass, both Katie Ann and Eli try their hardest to keep a distance. They vow to remain "just friends," but as their friendship deepens, taking the next step seems inevitable.This is an enjoyable read, especially for readers who are familiar with characters whose stories were previously introduced in Seek Me With All Your Heart and the Daughters of the Promise Series, which takes place in Lancaster County prior to these characters' move to Colorado. However, from a writers' standpoint, it honestly isn't all that well written, as there is never any doubt in the reader's mind how it will end, and that it WILL end well. I've always enjoyed Beth Wiseman, and listen or read her book often. They are clean and enjoyable. However, my complaint is about the cd's themselves. I put the first cd in my machine, and it comes up with error code,,,, this continues for several trys,,, when the cd did finally start, the cd skipped so badly I shut it off,,, I've even tried it in another machine, and it did the same thing. Since it skips so much, I couldn't follow the story! I'm sure it's a wonderful book,,, but these cd's are very poor quality, and for that, I am disappointed.See all 168 customer reviews...
